History
My grandfather, Roman, was a carpenter and a cabinetmaker. He had learned those skills from
his father along with the knowledge and expertise of keeping ones tools sharp. Through trade school and World War II he continued to develop his passion. In the early 1950’s he decided to fully devote his time to the sharpening industry. He then founded Ophoven Saw Service in Minneapolis. He was a one man shop taking pride in restoring dull steel circular saw blades, handsaws, and other tools into top cutting condition. He was quite a craftsman who took extreme pride in his work and made sure I learned that lesson.

In the mid 1970's after helping out in the shop through his high school and college years it was time for my father, John to decide if he was interested in taking over the family business. In 1976 he purchased the business from my grandfather. Roman continued to work with John as they began to see major changes in the tooling industry. Carbide tooling was becoming more and more popular with the need for longer lasting tools to cut the more abrasive materials being used in the building industry. This would eventually lead to the need for more sophisticated automated equipment to service this tooling.

In the late 1980's my dad made the decision to expand his facilities. He moved the company to Burnsville and it was around
that time he met Chuck Hancock who was running a similar business. They more or less combined forces which allowed them to add employees, streamline production, and upgrade equipment. The business has thrived to this day standing on the principles of integrity in our work backed by the finest equipment available operated by our dedicated staff.

In 2022, after working in the business for 15 years, I purchased the business from my father who continues to
be involved in daily operations. I am excited for the opportunity to lead and expand our company in the years ahead.
